Welcome to AdvancedTeachers.com! AdvancedTeachers.com is a highly categorized in-depth informational resource for all terms related to Advanced Teachers and Educators. About us.

A teacher (or, in the US, educator) is a person who provides education for pupils (children) and students (adults). The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing, carried out at a school or other place of formal education. In many countries, a person who wishes to become a teacher must first obtain specified professional qualifications or credentials from a university or college. These professional qualifications may include the study of pedagogy, the science of teaching. Teachers, like other professionals, may have to continue their education after they qualify, a process known as continuing professional development. Teachers may use a lesson plan to facilitate student learning, providing a course of study which is called the curriculum.

A teacher's role may vary among cultures. Teachers may provide instruction in literacy and numeracy, craftsmanship or vocational training, the arts, religion, civics, community roles, or life skills.

A teacher who facilitates education for an individual may also be described as a personal tutor, or, largely historically, a governess.

In some countries, formal education can take place through home schooling. Informal learning may be assisted by a teacher occupying a transient or ongoing role, such as a family member, or by anyone with knowledge or skills in the wider community setting.

Religious and spiritual teachers, such as gurus, mullahs, rabbis, pastors/youth pastors and lamas, may teach religious texts such as the Quran, Torah or Bible.

A. Waste your time at home. Yeah, I know, you don't want to hear that, and I will get thumbs down for this, but you are violating school regulations when you try to do this. You are in school for one reason: to LEARN. If you are doing something in class on the computer that isn't related to the class, then you are wasting everyone's time. If this wasn't a problem, the instructor wouldn't need a program like Insight Teacher. The computers cost the schools money, not just for the computers, but for their upkeep and the access to the internet. And it's your parents' taxes that pay for the school. So you are disrespecting everyone, when you try to get around the rules this way, including your parents, and yourself.

What other careers are suited to" teachers" of Special Education and are there any degree requirements?
Q. I hold a BA in Business Administration and have taken course work for my alternative teaching certificate. In order to complete my certificate for teaching I need to teach for a year but can't find a job in teaching right now.

A. I am not sure why you placed the word teachers in quotes. Hopefully you are not insinuating that people who work with special needs children are not really teachers. Most teachers of special education have dual degrees and many hours of additional course work over a regular teaching certificate. In my state it is very rare that a special education teacher does not have a Master's degree plus many hours. Teaching special education is very demanding and certainly not an area to pursue just to have a job.
